Belt Progress & Advancement
Karate offers a systematic method of student development and progress measured by colored belts. Munen Muso Martial Arts Studio's instructors will guide the willing student through the intense training required to achieve the rank of "black belt."
There are 7 grades before black belt.
After he or she signs up, the student will wear a white belt (provided with the uniform) signifying that the student is a beginner and does not yet hold a rank in karate. After their first exam, the student will earn a yellow belt. From there, you'll progress upward and so on through the beginning and intermediate ranks. Each of these grades are represented by different belts. The purpose of the belts is to provide the student with short-term goals that reinforce the long-term goal of earning black belt. This system makes it easy for the instructors to know who should be learning what. It also makes it easy for students to spot potential partners for team drills. The advanced grades are represented by brown belts. The first, is a plain solid brown belt. The 2nd is represented by a solid brown belt with a black stripe through the middle. After earning the 2nd brown belt, the next exam is for Shodan-ho (shoh-dahn ho).
